RULES NXT STARS 2026

Number of games

U19, U16 U14 and U12: Every team plays 2 games on 23th, 2 games on 24th and 1 game on 25th. 

Game length 

U19, U16 U14 and U12: 4 × 8 minutes (stopped clock) 

Criteria for ranking in a group 

1.Number of victories. 

2.In case of a same number of victories:

Two teams: 

(1) Team that won the game between these two. 

(2) Team with the best goal average (points scored minus points against) in their group. 

(3) Team that scored the most during all their games in their group. 

(4) Team against whom the least points were scored after Q1, then Q2, then Q3 (all games together in their group).

 

More than two teams: 

(1) Team with the best goal average in the games amongst the teams with the same number of victories. 

(2) Team with the best goal average (points scored minus points against) in their group. 

(3) Team that scored the most (all games together). 

(4) Team against whom the least points were scored after Q1, then Q2, then Q3 (all games together).

Specific game rules – NXT STARS Tournament

All games during the NXT STARS be played under the standing FIBA rules, with some exceptions. These exceptions are listed below:

 

  • Time between quarters: 1 minute
  • Halftime rest: 5 minutes
  • In case of a tie → sudden‑death (first basket wins) Scoring BOTH free throws after a foul counts as a scored basket If only ONE free throw is awarded (technical foul), scoring it counts as a scored basket (Not applicable for games for 1st–2nd place → normal 5‑minute overtime)
  • Playing time: 4 × 8 minutes, stopped clock
  • Fouls: fouled out after 4 fouls
  • Time‑outs: 1 per quarter, not transferable

 

Specific rules for U12 competitions

All zone defense, including zone press, is forbidden → technical foul on coach 

Fouls: fouled out after 4 fouls 

Ball size: No. 5 

Basket height: 2.60 m 

Players: 5 per team 

Backcourt violation applies 

Screens forbidden 

No shot clock 

The free‑throw line is set at 4.60 meters (standard distance).

We also use the regular three‑point line.

All other rules follow U14 and older

Ball size: No. 6 

Basket height: 3.05 m
